BETHLEHEM, Pa. - It's day two of the Sabor Latin Festival in Bethlehem.
Friday night will feature all the great music and food that comes with the festival. But it also includes an event that's connected to the very beginnings of Sabor.
Sabor Latin Festival has been a part of the Lehigh Valley for more than a decade now andformer members of the Sabor committee and ArtsQuest board reflected on how it all started.
"I had been on the board forArtsQuest for over 10 years and in the beginning, we talked about providing more Hispanic music to the community to bring forth our culture," saidexArtsQuestboard memberMirna Rivera.
Ex-board members say that the Puerto Rican culture was a huge part of why Sabor was created in the first place. They tell me that Bethlehem has had a Puerto Rican flag raising ceremony for more than 30 years now and that it used to be held elsewhere.

"We used to work in conjunction with the Puerto Rican Cultural Association to do that event at city hall," saidIris Cintron, an exSabor committee member.
"As time went on, and the Sabor festival started here, we collaborated with ArtsQuest and moved the flag raising ceremony to ArtsQuest and that's why we have it here."
Sabor was created to educate the community about the Latino music, food, and the overall culture, and when the festival idea was formed, the community helped pick out the name.
"We put it out to the community to give us some names and we asked through the radio programs, through other festivals, we're having this three-day event but we need a name,"Rivera said.
"And it has been Sabor for the last 13 years."
And the festival has continued to grow over all those years.
"We've been going strong for 13 years and we're so happy because every year it gets better and better," Cintron said.
