Choir, orchestra to perform

The St. Paul’s Choir and members of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra will present music of Antonio Vivaldi for double choir and double orchestra at 7 p.m.Sunday, May 7. The concert will be at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 414 E.Broad St.,Westfield. Special Olympics Track and Field Meet

Special Olympics New Jersey Somerset County will conductthe 2017 Area 10 Track and Field Meet on Saturday, May 6, at John Basilone Field in Bridgewater. The meet will feature more than 300 athletes who will compete in avariety ofevents. The day starts at 9 a.m. with the Opening Ceremonies and the Parade of Athletes. Linden Police Blotter

At 4:30 a.m. April 30,Linden Police and Fire departments responded to the 100 block of Woodlawn Avenue on a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a house, Linden Police Department Lt. Christopher Guenther said.According to initial reports, the vehicle was traveling north on Woodlawn Avenue when the driver failed to turn and continued straight into a driveway at the dead-end of the street.The vehicle collided with a car parked in the driveway and continued into the residence.First responders safely evacuated three occupants from the two-family residence, which was deemed usafe by Fire Department Officials due to structural damage. The vehicle driver and passenger were treated on scene for minor injuries.The residents of the home were not injured. The incident remains under investigation, though no criminal charges are expected.Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Linden Police Traffic Bureau at 908-474-8505.

Speed dating event for disabled held

The Union County Interfaith Coordinating Council conductedthe second annual networking event at which more than 90 people with disabilities who are members of Community Access Unlimited (CAU) and are looking for a faith community to join were able to "speed date" with various faith-based organizations. The event, called Faith in Action, was held at Suburban Golf Club in Union. Those attending, who are members of Community Access Unlimited, were able to meet with representatives of 20 houses of worship from a variety of Christian religions, as well as Judaism and Islam. Memorial Day parade float contest

Plans for the 2017 Scotch Plains-Fanwood Memorial Day Parade are underway. Theparade will be conductedon Monday, May 29, and a Memorial Day Parade Float Contest will be included in this year’s parade. Jewish Family Services fundraiser set

Judiciary to celebrate Law Day

The Judiciary will celebrate Law Day this week and throughout the month of May with events at the Richard .J. Hughes Justice Complex in Trenton and in courthouses around the state. This year’s Law Day theme is “The 14th Amendment: Transforming American Democracy.” Recorded remarks by Chief Justice Stuart Rabner marking the occasion can be viewed atnjcourts.gov. The Justice Complex Law Day event, co-hosted by the Judiciary and the Department of Law and Public Safety, will be held Tuesday, May 2. The festivities will include a naturalization ceremony for approximately 46 new citizens from 19 different countriesat 10 a.m. in the Justice Complex lobby.
